Bandhavgarh National Park , located in Madhya Pradesh in central India , is widely regarded as the best in the country for seeing Tigers. The density of the Tiger population at Bandhavgarh is the highest known in India . The park covering 45
3 square kilometers is dominated by an ancient hill fort and surrounded by rocky crags, which are home to Long-billed Vultures. The park is divided into five ranges covered by Bamboo, grasslands and Sal forests, at higher elevations Sal forests give way to mixed forest. You explore the park in open topped jeep and by elephant. The extensive stands of Bamboo and grasslands are ideal habitats for Chital and Sambar Deer, the Tiger's favorite prey. Here you have the greatest chance of seeing this elusive animal.
In addition to the Tigers, there are a wide variety of other animals and birds to be seen . From our jeeps you will see the fascinating Langur monkeys feeding alongside Chital Deer and possibly the more elusive Rhesus Macaque monkey around the edges of the forest. Crisscrossing the forest tracks families of wild Boar will be a common sight. If you are lucky you may see packs of Wild Dogs, which cross from meadow to meadow via the jeep tracks. As dusk approaches the large Sloth Bear, the mysterious Leopard and the shrewd Wolf, all present within the park, may be seen moving through the forest. There is the opportunity to spot many colourful birds, as there are more than 270 bird species recorded in the park.
Activity at
Bagh Sarai Resort :Bandhavgarh
Our days at Bagh Sarai- begin in the early morning; we enter the park before sunrise using the Gori Gate to avoid the long queues at the main Tala Gate. Initially we will be looking for signs of Tiger movement, pugmarks and listening for the alarm calls of Langur monkeys.
Early morning visit to the Park in search of the Royal Bengal Tiger and other game. Bandhavgarh is renowned, and justly so, for the relatively easy sighting of tiger, especially by daylight.
In the afternoon take a jeep ride in the park to view some of the game found here: Cheetal (Spotted de
er), Sambar, barking deer, Chowsingha (four-horned antelope), wild boar, Nilgai (blue bull), wild boar, grey langur, Rhesus macaque, Dhole
(Asian wild dog) and a variety of birds.
In the evening there is a slide show or lecture on the park and its flora and fauna, with resident naturalists always on hand to answer any queries you may have.
Returning to Bagh Sarai lodge there is time for a shower before dinner. When the sunsets wandering Chital Deer, Wild Boar and Jackals, are attracted into the peaceful grounds and the well-established fruit trees attract many resident birds. While nearby the Indian Wolf and Wild Dog have been spotted. As we sip a pre-dinner drink, the evening chorus of the Mottled Wood Owl in the branches of the Sal trees and packs of communicating Jackals begins.
